2015 Override

  • In November 2015, the Peoria Unified community voted for a 13 percent maintenance and operations budget override. The maintenance and operations override allows the district to increase its budget by 13 percent of the state formula, which is called the Revenue Control Limit. While the Governing Board could have called for up to a 15 percent maintenance and operations override, they opted to proceed with the recommendation by the Citizens’ Bond and Override Advisory Committee for a 13 percent override instead.

The override continues to fund such areas as assistant principals, existing class sizes, school nurses, physical education, arts education, reading programs, instructional coaches and the gifted education program. The additional three percent is being used to attract and retain qualified teachers and staff, and to implement free, full-day kindergarten at the district’s 34 elementary schools.

Thanks to our community, Peoria Unified passed a maintenance and operations override in the November 2015 election. The override helps fund:

    • assistant principals
    • existing class sizes
    • school nurses for all 42 school campuses
    • physical education
    • arts education
    • extracurricular and athletic programs
    • reading programs
    • instructional coaches
    • gifted education

The override also allows Peoria Unified to provide increased compensation for teachers and staff as well as fund all-day kindergarten for our youngest learners.
