Family Resource Center
The Peoria Unified School District has partnered with First Things First to provide the district’s two Family Resource Centers.
The centers are designed to provide resources for families with children five years and younger and will be used for the following: holding parenting workshops; giving referrals for things such as obtaining food boxes, immunizations and assistance with utilities. The centers will also offer assistance for families applying for health insurance and food stamps as well as Department of Economic Security childcare. The overall goal of the Family Resource Center are to strengthen families and help children arrive at kindergarten ready to succeed.
Funding for the Family Resource Centers comes from the Family Support Strategy of First Things First and focuses on strengthening families with young children, preparing them for kindergarten. Strong families are the building blocks of strong communities. It is critical parents have the necessary resources and tools to provide their children with stable nurturing environments especially in the earliest years.
