We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting our families in many unique ways. Our goal is to provide you with flexible options so your student has access to continued learning at home through guidance and support. We will provide this through direct access to our teachers, content experiences and online instruction to support individual student needs. Of course, if you have a graduating senior, your concern is amplified and we have a solid plan to ensure your child is where they want to be with their classwork, and graduates on time.
You will soon begin hearing from your teachers who will offer an individualized plan and resources to support learning at home specific to your student’s needs and the class or subject area.
Your teacher may be using a variety of resources to support learning, including paper and pencil, a collaborative learning site, online resources or assigning work through Synergy. Please recognize that this may look different for each class/course. What the teacher will provide are recommendations, but you and your student will have the ability to work at your own varied pace.
For many of you, we recognize that this learning will require access to technology and we will be distributing laptops to those students without access to a computer at home.
Technology Access for High School:
Any high school student without a computer available in the home may check out a laptop from 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 at Peoria High School or from 7:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. or from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Friday, March 27 at either Centennial High School or Liberty High School

Technology Access for Elementary:
For those families without access to a device at home, we have made arrangements to allow laptops to be checked out for use at home through the closure. Laptops may be checked out for elementary school students on the following dates:
- Monday, March 30 at Peoria High School from 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, March 31 at Centennial High School or Liberty High School from 7:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. or from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Again, the learning resources we’re providing are not to overwhelm you, but to provide support during this unique time. The classwork will not contribute towards your child’s grade, but will keep them engaged and focused on the path so they are prepared for the time we return to our regular school schedule.
We understand this can be a trying and stressful time for families. We have created a Student Support Line that your child may find useful. We’ll have a counselor available to take questions or listen from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday at 623-412-5262.

Learning at Home
Peoria Unified's Curriculum & Instruction team has compiled a list of online resources and guidelines for at-home learning activities. Our instructional team encourages you to see the opportunity for learning in everyday activities and to think outside the the box and keep your children mentally active and engaged.

The Peoria Unified School District will continue free breakfast and lunch service to children through the state’s mandated school closures. Meals will be available for curbside pick-up from 10:30 a.m. – noon, Monday – Friday beginning Monday, March 23.
All meals will be served in a bag with a lunch and cold breakfast for the next day. Lunch will include a hot or cold entrée, fruit, vegetable, and milk. Breakfast will include an entrée, fruit, juice, and milk.
Those 18-years and younger are eligible for the free meals they will be distributed one per child on a first come, first served basis. Meals for adults will be available for purchase for $3.00.
As per ADE requirements, all children must be present in the vehicle to receive their free meals.
The funding for meal distribution is available through the USDA National School Lunch Program. Those with accessibility needs should email our Food & Nutrition Department.
Frequently Asked Questions
The district has canceled school at all 42 sites, in addition to all in-person, school sponsored events, such as the following:
•KidZone Spring Break Camp and the KidZone before and after school program
•The city of Peoria’s Spring Break Camps at all schools
•All in-state and out of state field trips
•Indoor and outdoor athletic practices and events
•Performances, including the Peoria Arts & Cultural Festival that was scheduled for March 28
•Clubs and extra-curricular activities
•All preschool programs
•The district’s three Family Resource Centers
At this time, we do not have a date for school to resume. Our commitment to you is that we will provide continual updates and give you notice once we have an indication on when we can return to our normal school schedule and begin having school-sponsored activities.
On March 27, Governor Ducey signed HB 2910 into law which states that public schools are not required to extend the number of school days or add additional instructional hours to make up for the days missed after the statewide closure ends.
The district has posted a document with grade-appropriate online resources. We are currently finalizing a plan for delivering additional instructional opportunities at home and we will share those following our regularly scheduled Spring Break. Please note student accounts were temporily disabled on March 17, but are now operational.
Technology support is available for parents and students through our IMT Help Desk, however, we ask that you please only use this line for general questions related to school assigned work or technology. Our team cannot assist wiht third party apps or technology needs specific to non-district software, sites or equipment. Please call 623-486-6138 or email the team for support. Due to high call volumes, you may be required to leave a message, but your call will be returned.
We are currently compiling resources for online support for those families that do not have access to the Internet at home. Please expect to hear from your school the week of March 23 with additional updates and resources to support your family.
We will be assessing all upcoming events as the situation evolves and provide you with notice relative to each one just as soon as the information is available. We would highly recommend that you retain receipts for items purchased for special events. We would also encourage our community to purchase refundable airline tickets and check policies related to hotel stays if planning for graduation travel. All updates will be posted on this page.
No. All school-sponsored, in-person events and meetings have been canceled.
Peoria Unified will be providing curb-side daily meals between 10:30 a.m. – noon, Monday – Friday beginning March 23 for any child 18 years-old and under and meals for purchase for adults. We ask that you not make future payments at this time. We will reach out to families when there is a new deadline set for preschool payments.
School offices will be open from 10:30 a.m. – noon on March 23 and 24 so families can pick up medication from our school nurses. Please stay in your car when you arrive and we will send someone out to you. All other non-medication related personal items will be available at a later date. We will send another parent notification once they are available for pick-up.
We will begin the refund process the week of March 23. Due to the volume of refunds and the minimal number of staff in our buildings this process may take longer than normal. We will provide a timeline once it's available.
While our phone response is limited, please email us with questions or concerns and we will return your message within 24 hours. In addition, a hotline will soon be available for students and parents and we will update our FAQ when that is available.
•Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
•If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
•Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

President Trump announced that the U.S Department of Education will not require standardized testing for the current year for all students, elementary through high school. With that, we anticipate students will not be required to take the AzMERIT at all grade levels and high school students will not be required to take the ACT this year. We will share additional information as it is communicated.
Withdrawal requests are handled at your student's current school. While our school offices are currently closed, you may call the school and leave a message requesting more information about withdrawing your student and the school will call you back as soon as possible. We are striving for a 24-hour return time for all communications if possible. Visit our About Our Schools page for directory information for all of our campuses.
We have established a new Support Line for students who are in need of someone to talk through what they may be experiencing through the school closure. We know many of them may be experiencing an array of feelings and we want them to have a place to call in and speak with someone who can talk them through it or connect them with resources.
