Peoria Unified Achieves Excellence in Financial Reporting
The Peoria Unified School District was recently awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
The Government of Finance Officers Association granted the Peoria Unified School District a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending in 2018. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant achievement by the district. The award also reflects a high level of commitment to fiscal integrity and management. To receive the award, the district must satisfy specific guidelines for effective, high-quality financial reporting recognized by school business officials.
The 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
“I am proud that our district has once again been recognized with an award that further demonstrates our commitment to financial transparency,” said Peoria Unified Chief Financial Officer, Michelle Myers. “Stewardship of Community Resources is an area of focus within our strategic plan where we are dedicated to solidifying and adhering to effective policies, practices and accountability for district resources.”
When a governmental agency receives a Certificate of Achievement from the Government of Finance Officers Association, a Financial Reporting Achievement Award is also presented to the specific individuals in the department who are primarily responsible for the district earning that certificate.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management team and highlights the efforts put forth by district staff to be transparent and accurate with financial reporting.
