Peoria Unified is making changes to our COVID-19 procedures to continue to move towards our pre-coronavirus campus operations. Beginning on Monday, May 24, facial masks will be optional inside and outside on all school campuses and district facilities for students, staff and visitors.
Our district’s strong mitigation plan has allowed us to stay open since September - even when other schools were closed to in-person learning. It is important to understand that our public health experts continue to encourage mask wearing as an important tool to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to do our best to maintain physical distancing, conduct daily cleaning and disinfecting, encourage hand washing, use air purifiers in our classroom areas and limit sharing of materials. If we see an increasing concern in our health data, we may need to review and make changes to our mitigation procedures to keep our students, staff and community safe.
This has been a very challenging year for our entire community, and I, again, want to thank our teachers, staff, students and parents for all your hard work to get us to this point. Thank you for your patience as we reach milestones that will allow us to begin the 2021-22 school with as much normalcy as possible. I appreciate your ongoing support of the Peoria Unified School District.
