The district is navigating a complex financial landscape due to declining enrollment and funding changes. The Governing Board is currently evaluating the adoption of the following proposal, first shared in January 2026.
Kachina and Pioneer elementary schools closed and buildings repurposed.
K-6 Kachina and Pioneer elementary boundaries adjusted: Kachina students would attend Canyon Elementary and Pioneer students to attend Foothills Elementary.
Kachina, Pioneer, Canyon and Foothills elementary school’s 7th -8th graders move to Cactus High School.
Cactus High School repurposed into a 7-12th grade school.
Peoria eCampus closed to K-8 students, but continues to operate as a 9-12th model.
K-6th grade SUCCEED students at Pioneer will move to Foothills Elementary School with their peers. 7th and 8th grade SUCCEED students currently at Pioneer Elementary will move with their peers to Cactus High School.
The ARISE program currently at Kachina will be moving to other campuses as part of a larger opportunity to expand programming. This is not a change to any student’s IEP, services, or support.
The WORKS transition program will expand from Cactus High School to a repurposed location.
Foothills Elementary School will refocus and expand programming to support arts integration across all preK-6 grades.
Canyon will continue to be home to the Sunflower School.
2028-29 School Year
Oakwood 7-8th graders will move to Cactus High School
Oakwood will add a preschool program to support early childhood learning.
Oakwood will become a preK-6th grade school.
