Peoria Unified is thrilled to be home to 5 percent of all Flinn Scholarship Semifinalists:

  • Jadyn Beach, Ironwood High School

  • Kylie McEwen, Liberty High School

  • Katie Tong, Centennial High School

  • James VanGoethem, Ironwood High School

These four Peoria Unified students join only 75 other students from around Arizona who were selected as semifinalists from a pool of 1,150 competitive applicants. These semifinalists will participate in virtual interviews later this month and approximately half will be selected as finalists to be interviewed by the Flinn Foundation’s Selection Committee.

“We are very excited to have these students recognized as semifinalists for the Flinn Scholarship. Peria Unified is intentional in our approach to preparing our students to be college and career ready after graduation. From a leading curriculum to opportunities for leadership development, these students are a testament to the great work happening in Peoria Unified,” said Dr. Teresa Hernandez, Deputy Superintendent of Educational Servies.

20 students will be named Flinn Scholars which comes with a merit-based award valued at more than $135,000 and includes funding for international study, mentorship and membership in a community of high-achieving peers. The selected scholars will attend Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University or the University of Arizona beginning in fall 2026.
