Large white text reads: “TAHLYA VISINTAINER APPOINTED AS INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT.”

The Peoria Unified Governing Board voted today to appoint Tahlya Visintainer as Interim Superintendent beginning May 26, 2026 through June 30, 2027. During this time, the district will conduct a search for the next Superintendent.

Visintainer brings more than 25 years of experience in human resources and organizational leadership to the role of Interim Superintendent of Peoria Unified School District. Ms. Visintainer returned to Peoria Unified in June 2025 as the District’s Chief Personnel Officer. Prior to joining Peoria Unified, she was the vice president of human resources at Spectrum Healthcare Group. She also served in roles as chief operating officer, chief human resources officer, and vice president of human resources and organizational development at Sun Health Senior Living. Before joining Sun Health, Visintainer served as an administrator for human resources in Peoria Unified from 2009 to 2015. Visintainer brings a foundational background as an Attorney at Law, specializing in Employment Law. She earned a juris doctorate from Arizona State University’s College of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science in management with an emphasis in human resources. Visintainer is also a proud graduate of Foothills Elementary School and Cactus High School, both located in the Peoria Unified School District.

Peoria Unified is grateful for Dr. LaDouceur’s willingness to serve during a time when the District needed additional leadership support and we appreciate his work over the last two months through our leadership transition.

The Governing Board recognizes the importance of continuity of leadership to provide stability for the District. Visintainer will take over for Dr. KC Somers, whose resignation was accepted by the Governing Board in March. Dr. Somers’ last day as Superintendent is May 26. The morning meeting was called to secure leadership with Dr. Somers’ pending departure, to keep the focus on students and not conflict with previously scheduled eighth grade promotions or high school graduations.
