Peoria Unified School District is inviting community members to join its Governing Board Citizens' Advisory Committee, a volunteer group that will help guide long-range planning across the District. Interest forms are due August 7, 2026.
Created by the Governing Board, the Citizens' Advisory Committee brings community voices into the District's long-range planning process. Members review information, evaluate options, and develop thoughtful, well-researched recommendations on the issues that shape the future of Peoria Unified schools. The Committee may be asked to explore topics such as long-range facility planning, enrollment and demographic trends, school capacity and utilization, attendance boundaries, school repurposing opportunities, capital improvement priorities, transportation, technology infrastructure, and future growth and its financial impacts.
The Committee serves in an advisory capacity only. It does not set policy or make final decisions — that responsibility remains with the Governing Board. Its work is designed to inform the Board's deliberations with recommendations grounded in the community's perspective.
The District is seeking a group of participants who reflect the Peoria Unified community — parents and guardians, community members, business and civic leaders, teachers, classified employees, principals, administrators, students, individuals with charter school experience, retired educators, and professionals in fields such as finance, construction, architecture, engineering, planning, and higher education. The District is also seeking representation from across geographic areas in the district. Members are asked to consider issues from a District-wide perspective, thinking beyond any single school or neighborhood to what is best for Peoria Unified as a whole.
The Committee will meet approximately six times during the fall, with additional meetings added if needed. Meetings will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the District Administration Center, 6330 W. Thunderbird Road, Glendale, on the following proposed dates: Wednesday, Sept. 16; Wednesday, Sept. 30; Wednesday, Oct. 14; Wednesday, Oct. 28; Wednesday, Nov. 18; and Wednesday, Dec. 2. All meetings are open to the public and conducted in accordance with Arizona Open Meeting Law. Members will receive orientation and training before participating and can expect to review reports, demographic data, and financial analyses; hear from District staff, consultants, and subject-matter experts; engage in respectful, open-minded discussion; and help develop a final report of findings and recommendations for the Governing Board.
