Student interns from Raymond S. Kellis High School, a proud high school in the Peoria Unified School District, provided full live coverage of a ceremony at American Legion Post 62 honoring Pima Nation Marine Ira H. Hayes and his family.
Ira H. Hayes, one of Arizona's most significant veterans, was a Pima Nation Marine and one of the flag raisers immortalized in the iconic Iwo Jima photograph. The Hayes family will be recognized during the ceremony.
This event highlights a meaningful community partnership and showcases student broadcast work, with strong ties to Arizona history, Native American history, WWII and veterans' service, a story of relevance to classrooms across the district. Raymond S. Kellis High School has a longstanding partnership with American Legion Post 62. They are the same group that Raymond S. Kellis High School partners with each Veterans Day for its flag-raising ceremony.
