In honor of the 25th anniversary of September. 11, 2001, and remembrance of those who lost their lives, schools throughout Peoria Unified held commemorative events, including those listed below:

Thursday, Sept. 10

Ironwood High School, 

National Unity Flag Assembly

Following the tragic events of September. 11, 2001, former Ironwood High School teacher Cathy Wallace, along with her students, created the National Unity Flag to honor those who lost their lives. The National Unity Flag includes the flags of all 50 U.S. states and six U.S. districts. In addition, the center panel includes the names of all victims of the terror attacks. In the years since it’s creation, the National Unity Flag has traveled across the United States honoring those who lost their lives, and reminding citizens of our greatest strength: unity with each other. 

The National Unity Flag returned to Ironwood High School for an assembly on Thursday, Sept. 10, before being transported to State Farm Stadium for a memorial on Friday, Sept. 11.

Desert Harbor Elementary School

Walk of Honor

Veterans, firefighters, police officers and emergency personnel will be welcomed in the cafeteria before taking an honorary walk along the boardwalk, cheered on by students and staff.

Frontier Elementary School

Heroes Lunch 

Veterans, first responders and active-duty military personnel were invited to attend Frontier Elementary’s Heroes lunch where they were honored and provided the opportunity to reflect on their service. 

Sunset Heights Elementary School

Hero Walk 

First responders were honored with a walk through the campus.
