Lake Pleasant Elementary School is buzzing with excitement as construction progresses on a new junior high building, set to open to students in the 2025-26 school year. This project, spearheaded by SPS+ Architects and Danson Construction, promises to bring innovation and additional learning space to the A-rated preK-12 school.
While additional capacity is the primary focus, a unique aspect of this project is the involvement of seventh and eighth-grade students in the construction process. Students’ curiosity to learn about the developments taking place on campus has made them an integral part of the project. Approximately 30 students who identified as having an interest in engineering, electrical, plumbing, masonry, or interior design have been invited to participate in weekly project meetings and are divided into small groups to learn alongside the construction team.
Each week, construction managers, project managers, the school principal, and a group of students meet to discuss the progress of the new junior high building and gain valuable insights into the construction process and various trades involved. Project meetings include discussing status updates on concrete pouring, bridging work, hanging of trusses, roofing materials, and more. Students can ask questions and those participating in the meetings were able to sign the trusses before they went up, leaving a long-lasting imprint on the educational building in which they will get to learn.
The new junior high building will feature eight classrooms, plus a staff workspace. This exciting development at Lake Pleasant Elementary School not only promises to provide modern facilities but also offers a unique educational experience for our junior high students. Stay tuned for more updates as we watch this project come to life!
