At Zuni Hills Elementary, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to grow, thrive, and feel a true sense of belonging. Our ABLE Program—Achievement Through Beneficial Life Experiences—is a cornerstone of that commitment.
The ABLE program is a specialized academic and life-skills program designed to support students with unique learning needs. We focus on delivering meaningful instruction in core academic areas such as reading, writing, and math, while also teaching essential life skills that prepare students for real-world success. Lessons are individualized, hands-on, and rooted in building both knowledge and independence.
“Our classroom is a place where students work toward academic goals while also learning how to navigate everyday life,” said Mrs. Nemes, a dedicated ABLE educator. “We celebrate growth, encourage self-confidence, and foster a love for learning in everything we do.”
A key part of what makes the ABLE program special at Zuni Hills is the Grizzly Buddies Program. Through this initiative, general education students visit the ABLE classrooms to play games, work on projects, and build friendships with their peers. These shared experiences break down barriers and create a more compassionate, inclusive school culture.
“It’s powerful to see students connecting on a human level,” said Mr. Raymond, ABLE Teacher. “The Buddies Program teaches kindness, patience, and acceptance—and both groups of students benefit from the time spent together.”
Beyond the classroom, ABLE students participate in school-wide events, attend grade-level field trips when appropriate, and are active members of the Zuni Hills community. Whether it’s through academic progress, life skills development, or lasting friendships, the ABLE program is helping shape confident, capable learners.
At Zuni Hills, we’re proud to support every student’s path—and the ABLE program is a shining example of how we honor ability, growth, and community every day.
