Dear Canyon Family,
My name is Kristen Balthis and I have the privilege of being the principal of Canyon Elementary. Our school is not like any other school around! The features that make our school so unique, make us the best school in and outside the Peoria Unified School District. As soon as you walk onto our campus, you can feel our family atmosphere. We are a small school with around 400 students, but our size allows us to take an individualized approach with our students and recognize the fact that all students learn differently and have different needs. Our campus also inhabits the Sunflower School. This school specializes in educating students with multiple disabilities, some of which require long term medical care. All of our students have the opportunity to interact with each other and both schools participate in leadership opportunities. Being a leader and making a difference are vital components of our school vision.
Our school mission is, "Dream it. Do it. Be the difference. Today and tomorrow." The idea of our leadership is not only being the difference, but making a difference in our community. We encourage students from kinder through 8th-grade to get involved with leadership. Our students have opportunities to participate in clubs like National Junior Honor Society and Student Council. Even our younger students are inspired to get involved and have created clubs like "Be the We" and a recycling club which are all run by the students themselves. We also have a group of students that provide tours to perspective new families and shadow those students once they arrive on the campus. I encourage you to stop by and take a tour or call us with any questions. We believe in our school and the difference we make with our students.
