  • The Peoria Unified School District believes that every student has the right to be educated in a positive, safe, caring, and respectful learning environment and that all employees will work in an environment where they will feel safe and heard. To sustain a positive environment, it will require the involvement of students, staff, families and our community.

    Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits the district from discriminating based on race, color, or national origin in its programs and activities. The District and its schools must respond appropriately to reports of harassment, including harassment based on race, color, or national origin.

    Reflective of Title VI, the district will not tolerate student-on-student (Policy JICK-EA) or employee-on-student bullying, harassment, or intimidation of any kind. To better define harassment, the district is referring to behavior by a student or group of students that is disturbing or threatening to another student or group of students. Harassment may be related, but not limited to, actual or perceived race, ethnicity, color, religion ancestry, sexual orientation, national origin, socioeconomic status, size or personal appearance, age, linguistics or language differences, or physical, cognitive, social and emotional abilities. This includes offensive touching, jokes, name-calling, slurs, gesture, and symbols.

    Students,staff, and families are encouraged to report harassment to their building principal by completing form JICK-EA and the District will ensure a prompt investigation as outlined in Regulation JICK-R to determine if a hostile environment exists. You may also report harassment to the Student Services Office at 623-486-6003. Retaliation by any student directed toward a student or employee related to the reporting of a case or a suspected case of bullying, harassment, or intimidation will not be tolerated. Students found to be bullying, harassing, or intimidating others, or retaliating against a report of bullying, harassment, or intimidation, will be disciplined up to and including long-term suspension from school.
