Choir
Oakwood students are eligible to join Choir in 5th-8th grade. Students perform in 2 concerts each school year and also at the annual Peoria Arts Festival.
5th Grade Choir: Our 5th Grade students are learning how to sing together in a group and sing in tune. They learn that their are different scores in music and how to read their score and what it means to sing in a 2-part harmony.
6th Grade Choir: Our 6th Grade choir students focus on continuing to work on singing in tune in a 2-party harmony, head voice versus chest voice, demonstrating performance etiquette, defining and demonstrating singing vocabulary such as crescendo, accent, a tempo, staccato, ritardando, etc.
Junior High Choir (7th/8th Grade): Our junior high choir meets 3 times in a 6-day schedule and satisfies an arts elective for our junior high students. They have the tradition of singing at a Diamondbacks game each season. They also perform in two choir concerts each school year, perform at the District Arts Festival, and participate in a choir festival off campus near the end of each school year.
