    Dear Sky View Families,

Welcome to the 19-20 school year! I hope you have all had an enjoyable summer and our ready for a productive year of learning. I would first like to introduce our new Assistant Principal, Mr. Stephen Udowitz. Mr. Udowitz received a B.A. in Special Education and Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University. In his educational career, he has held a variety of positions: classroom teacher, Behavior Interventionist, Assistant Principal and Principal. He joined the Peoria Unified School District in the Summer of 2017 and has served as a Special Education Coordinator. Stepping into his new role as Assistant Principal of Sky View Elementary, he is excited to utilize his professional experiences to serve our school community and help contribute the continuous growth and development of both our staff and students. Welcome, Mr. Udowitz!

As we begin this year, Sky View will continue its Leader in Me journey. All students and staff will continue to follow and teach the 7 Habits by Steven Covey. Through learning leadership skills, our students will continue to participate in action teams and demonstrate their leadership skills.

In addition, I am also excited to share that Sky View is one of eight Peoria Unified Schools that will be piloting the district’s Social Emotional Learning Model this year. This multitiered system focuses on supports and resources for students, teachers, and parents. Specific Social Skills, from The Boys’ Town Education Model, will be taught and practiced. These skills will not only help students learn appropriate social skills and behaviors in the school environment, but also in transferring them into many areas of their lives outside of school. You will find these social skills on the backside of this letter, as well as, on Sky View’s Website. I encourage you to visit our homepage to review and learn more about our Social Emotional Learning Model and these skills.
Looking forward to a great year!

    Yours in education,

    Ms. Tammy Maas, Principal
