A new era in Kellis Boys’ Basketball began March 23, 2020, as De’Rahn Stinson was introduced as the 4th Head Coach to lead the Kellis program. Coach Stinson enters his second season as Varsity Head Coach at Kellis after spending two seasons as JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach at South Mountain High School, as well as having coached at Red Mountain High School, Mesquite High School, and Cicero Preparatory Academy. 

Coach Stinson is new to being a Varsity Head Coach, but he is not new to coaching the game of basketball. He started his coaching career at 18 years old, volunteering at a Longview Recreation Center in central Phoenix. After coaching for two seasons at Longview, he moved to Atlanta, GA. There he continued coaching under the mentorship of coach Bo Bell where he would help with youth and college players in Downtown Atlanta. After completing his internship in Atlanta, Coach Stinson returned home to Phoenix, AZ where he started coaching with Aim High Elite Athletes (A.E.A.) under former NBA player Reggie Fox.

“My biggest coaching influences are definitely Reggie Fox, Dave Camadini, and Terell Washington. These three men helped me shape my coaching style and my love for coaching. We all worked together at Aim High Elite Athletes; that is where I truly evolved into the coach I am today.”

While working with A.E.A. Coach Stinson got his first taste of high school basketball at Mesquite High School in Gilbert, AZ where he was tasked with being the Freshman and Varsity Assistant Coach under Varsity Head Coach Chris Lemon. After a short stint at Mesquite, Coach Stinson went on to take over the middle school and high school programs at Cicero Preparatory Academy, leading the Centurions through their 1^st CAA Season. After two seasons at Cicero, Coach Stinson would reunite with Coach Lemon at Red Mountain High School in Mesa, AZ where he would lead the JV team to a 12-6 record. In addition, he acted as a Varsity Assistant, making it to the Elite 8. After his time at Red Mountain, Coach Stinson was able to return to alma mater, South Mountain High School. In his two seasons at South Mountain, Coach Stinson lead his JV teams to records of 14-4 and 17-1. Along with the success of the JV teams, he was also the Varsity Assistant Coach. South Mountain made it to the Sweet 16 in the 2018-2019 season and all the way to the Final Four in his second year. After the success of those two seasons, Coach Stinson was hired to become Varsity Head Coach of the Kellis Basketball Program in 2019-2020 – this would be the first time in his career he would get the chance to lead a program.  

Coach Stinson comes into Kellis bringing a new wave of energy and intensity, along with a wealth of knowledge that he has picked up along the way from past coaches he has worked with and played under.

“I am excited to be at Kellis, this feels like the perfect spot for me and my family and I can’t wait to build this program and lead it in the right direction.”

Coach Daviaughn Reagan is in his second season heading the JV basketball team while also assisting with the Varsity team. Reagan has gained plenty of experience before landing at Raymond S. Kellis HS. Reagan played under 14-year NBA vet Mike Bibby with the highly touted Team Bibby basketball program from the age of 10-18, seeing and grasping all things basketball. He then went on to spend all four of his high school years playing varsity due to all things learned from gained experience from previous experience. Reagan played three seasons at Betty H. Fairfax in Laveen, AZ under coaches Dom Dominguez and Josh Wray before moving on to conclude his high school career with one season at Marcos de Niza HS in Tempe, AZ, under head coach David Stark. Reagan then spent time with the basketball program at GCC under head coach Guy Meyers, where he gained more valuable knowledge from the college basketball experience.

 

“Extremely grateful for those previous experiences,” Reagan said. “All those guys taught me something valuable whether my experience with them was good or bad.”

 

Following his short stint at GCC, Reagan took a liking to coaching the game of basketball. Having an opportunity to help out at Betty Fairfax HS during the 2017-18 season where they finished with a 22-8 record under head coach Josh Wray. He also helped coach during numerous summer leagues with the Fairfax along with dabbling in the AZ club scene with Team Zona that is directed by Sal Garcia.

 

Coach Reagan is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in sports journalism from ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications. With the hopes of gaining more experience in the coaching field to further his coaching career.

“While accomplishing my bachelor’s degree, I look forward along with the rest of the Kellis staff of shaping great young men moving them on past high school while also trying to display to our guys that with hard work, results will follow through the game of basketball and in life,” Reagan said.

Braedan Myers is in his second season working with our Freshman program here at Kellis, while also being a Varsity assistant coach. Myers has been playing the game of basketball since he can remember. He played 3 years of varsity basketball in Mankato Minnesota, while being a team captain his senior season. After earning all-city and all conference nods, he decided to further is basketball career at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

 

“Augustana taught me so many valuable lessons on and off the basketball court. Coach Tom Billeter really showed me the importance of execution and where hard work can take your teams. With his long list of coaching experience, I just tried my best to be a sponge and take everything he said in.”

 

After tearing his Achilles his senior year, he decided to really take a deep dive into the X’s and O’s, really picking his coaches brains. After healing from the injury, he was added to the Team Brandon club team’s coaching staff in South Dakota. Where he was working under multiple state championship coach Brandon Decker.

 

“That was the first time I was given my own team to run where I had free reign of what I wanted to run and get a glimpse of what it is like to establish a culture. I had a lot of growing pains but I am so thankful for that staff over there and what they were able to teach me and accomplish in that summer and later that winter by becoming state champions.”

 

After the summer of 2015, Myers accepted a teaching job here in Arizona at Pendergast Elementary School. Myers also dipped his toes into what coaching a high school basketball team was like, as he coached the Freshman team at La Joya Community High School under Roger Lefebvre. Myers is hopefully going to be continuing his education this fall by getting his Master’s degree in School Counseling.

 

“I can’t wait to see what happens this year at Kellis. We have a great group of boys and a great staff. I think we are all hungry and extremely motivated to turn this school into a consistent winner. I am so thankful to be apart of Coach Stinson’s staff and to get to interact with this whole group every day
