A New Year Message from Mr. Hollabaugh

  • Dear Centennial Community,

Happy New Year! Today, our campus was energized by students returning, many of them starting new classes, with new teachers and opportunities for learning and growth! I want to thank our Counselors for their hard work planning today’s smooth start and our teachers for the many hours of preparation that support effective first days back.

Meet Our Teachers: Monday, January 23rd (6-7pm)
We hope you’ll make plans to meet your Coyote’s new teachers by joining us for Meet the Teacher Night at 6pm on Monday, January 23rd. The evening will last less than an hour, and you’ll have the chance to follow your Coyote’s schedule, meet his/her teachers, and learn about the semester to come.

ACT Information Night: Wednesday, February 8th (6pm)
When it comes to college acceptance and scholarship eligibility, there is no test as important as the ACT. All Centennial juniors will take the ACT on Tuesday, April 4th. Between now and then, you can expect lots of practice and preparation opportunities. We’ll start by meeting with juniors and sophomores on Tuesday, January 17th, to teach them about the importance of the ACT. We’ll then offer a full practice test to juniors and the full Pre-ACT to sophomores on Saturday, March 4th. These March 4th sessions are optional chances to practice and prepare. We’ll also offer optional after-school ACT prep for juniors this semester, and juniors enrolled in our Math, Science, English and Social Studies courses will get additional ACT Prep via an online program called Chalk Talk. You can get more information about all of this by attending ACT Information Night on Wednesday, February 8th. We hope to see you there!

    When Students Forget Their Computers
Last semester, we implemented 1:1 instruction campuswide, providing every Centennial student with a new laptop and charging cord. This semester, as we get into the habit of bringing our charged devices daily, Centennial’s teachers will be implementing some changes: Students who arrive to school without their charged laptop may be unable to complete computer-based assignments for full credit or may be asked to visit the Library to borrow a loaner device. If students repeatedly struggle to remember their charged device, our teachers will reach out to alert parents regarding academic and disciplinary impacts. It's essential that our students bring charged devices daily so that they can maximize class time and learn alongside their peers. Please help us by encouraging your son or daughter to charge their laptop each night!

Before we know it, our seniors will be walking across the stage at State Farm Stadium, accepting diplomas and moving into new directions. Of course, many fun activities remain between now and May 25th. Our Student Council is busy planning Hoopcoming Week January 30th through February 3rd, with Winter Formal scheduled for Saturday, February 4th. Our winter sports teams are in the midst of exciting seasons. I hope you’ll make plans to check out a basketball, soccer, or wrestling match in January and February. And tryouts for spring sports aren’t far off. The spring musical, prom, dance concerts, senior awards and many other special events remain as well.

I hope your family has had a happy start to 2023 and look forward to welcoming you to Centennial in the near future.

    Mr. Hollabaugh
