Two of Centennial’s art students, Senior Amanda Raber and Junior Emily Raygoza, have their artwork displayed at Shemer Art Center for the New Horizons Art Show. Both students received awards and scholarships for their artwork at an awards ceremony held Jan. 20th.
January Artists of the Month
Mr. Buhrman said, Jeremy is a true pleasure to work with, always demonstrating an exceptional work ethic. His creativity, imagination, and willingness to try new techniques encourage him to experiment and think outside the box. Jeremy’s artwork has heart allowing the viewer to connect with real world situations. His works of art are not only thoughtful but exemplify incredible detail. He utilizes his talents in many disciplines of art, including music and photography. Jeremy’s creative possibilities are limitless. His well-adjusted disposition makes him an outstanding student and true individual.
Mrs. Colletti said, Amber Poirier is an integral part of our arts community. She is involved in many programs on our campus, including Theater, Bel Canto, and Art. Amber was the lead in our fall play “Emma” this year. Her character never left the stage throughout the two-hour show! She is also a Drama Club officer and contributes to the overall success of our program through planning events and fundraising for the club. She is an exceptional artist in the Coyote Community, and we couldn’t be more proud of her!

Japanese II created personalized Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The students researched Ikebana that reflected personal connections to their displays. The students used these Ikebana principles to make their pieces:
- Less is More: Where western-style arrangements go for flowers in a vase on mass to make an impact, Ikebana goes for structure, space, and minimalism.
- Asymmetrical Balance: It’s common to see tall branches balanced precariously in ikebana. That’s because it uses a 30/70 balance ratio, rather than the normal 50/50.
- It’s much more than just decoration: The art of creating an arrangement leads to self awareness (and happiness!).
- In and Yo: Japanese Yin and Yang is about opposites completing one another.
- Ephemerality: Ikebana aims to capture the fleeting beauty of things. A lot of Ikebana arrangements feature a bud to represent the promise of hope.
- Space: Not just emptiness, but an important part of the design as a whole.

Junior Year & ACT Parent Information Night
Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Parents are Welcome
Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 6pm (Library)Join us next Tuesday, February 6th for Centennial's Junior Year and ACT Family Information Night! All juniors will take the ACT on Tuesday, April 2nd. The ACT is a nationally-recognized test that assesses a student’s likelihood of succeeding in college-level courses. If you intend to go to a college or university, the ACT may be the most important test you will take as a high school student. Students who perform well on the ACT are more likely to be admitted into selective universities and more likely to receive significant scholarship money in Arizona and nationwide. While students typically choose whether to pay $85 to take the ACT, the Peoria Unified School District and Centennial High School require all juniors to take the ACT. Fortunately, there will be no cost. The ACT is free for you! All freshmen will take the Aspire, an ACT "pre-test" that will provide students with evidence of their progress toward ACT and college preparation.
Join us at 6pm in the Library to learn about:
- The Five ACT and Aspire Subtests.
- How the ACT and Aspire are Scored.
- Why the ACT Matters for College Scholarships and College Admission.
- How Centennial Will Help Students to Prepare for the ACT.
- The Changing Role of the ACT in College Admissions.
- And More!
