Congratulations to Coach Gonzales, Coach Marinaro, Coach Marshall and Coach Ebel and Centennial Spiritline for their outstanding performances at the nationals competition in Anaheim last weekend! The Coyotes' five-man stunt team finished 5th in the nation after placing 3rd in Arizona, and four other performance groups earned fantastic finishes at this high-caliber competition! We are proud of all of you!
Congratulations to Centennial's wrestlers! The Coyotes Boys Wrestling team finished 5th in the state and the Girls team took 6th in last weekend's finals tournament. Congratulations to all of our boys placers: State runners-up Jesse Copper (2nd) and Jace Langley (2nd), as well as Caden Leyba (3rd) and Austin Beachler (3rd). Also, congrats to our girls placers, including state runner-up Chloe Gatrost (2nd) as well as Yaretzi Haro (3rd) and Fiona Njato (4th). Finally, thank you to Coach Brian Burgess, who this month announced his retirement from Centennial wrestling, after 28 years of coaching the Coyotes! Coach Burgess, you have made an incredible impact on so many young wrestlers in our community. Thank you for your dedication, hard work, and Coyote Pride!
Congratulations to Coach James and Boys Basketball! The Coyotes defeated North Canyon 67-53 to advance to the state tournament: Centennial plays at Willow Canyon, Wednesday at 7pm. Good luck!

Last Friday, Centennial Construction students competed against students from across the West Valley region at Lowes. The Coyotes performed extremely well, placing in almost every contest. Congratulations to Sarah Mack (1st place in Carpentry), Braedon Boone (1st place in Masonry), Tanner Richardson (2nd place in Electrical), Bradin Platero (3rd place in Masonry) and Zachary Sosne (3rd place in Electrical)!
Friday, Feb. 9th Centennial’s Bel Canto Choir was supposed to travel to Flagstaff to participate in the NAU Jazz/Madrigal Festival, but Mother Nature had other plans and they were unable to go. This did not stop them from creating and sharing music! Mesa Community College opened up an NAU South site for us to still have our “Festival” performance. Bel Canto dealt with this adversity like champs and received a Superior Rating! Congratulations!
Last Tuesday, February 13th, our Japanese II students performed Japanese Theater. Students researched 6 different types of theater, performing one scene of their choice from a short story or movie: Traditional Kabuki, Kyogen slap stick comedy, and Takarazuka western musicals were among the types. So were Geisha Dance, previously forbidden for females, Noh with masks, and Bunraku, which is life-sized puppetry. The students wrote their own scripts, performed with costumes and props and one group did a short film.
Production Design has been working hard on the set for Sister Act. Our spring musical opens is Mar. 6th – 8th and the artistic process for this show has been a fun challenge. Students have worked on designing the show and now executing a plan to get all the set elements built and painted!
French students and members of French Club and Culture Club celebrated Mardi Gras on Tuesday, February 13th. They learned about the cultural significance of Fat Tuesday, made masks, and enjoyed traditional foods such as king cake.
Parent Connect: Healthy Relationships
-
Take a break from cooking on Monday, February 26th, and join us at 6:00pm in the Library for dinner and discussion concerning Healthy Teen Relationships. Centennial’s Site Council has allocated funding for Kaity’s Way representatives to provide parents with information about the signs of teen dating violence and the attributes of healthy relationships.
Kaity’s Way is a nonprofit organization that strives to lessen instances of violence among or against children, helping parents and teens to start difficult conversations and to identify relationship “red flags” such as jealousy, possessive behavior, physical or verbal abuse, etc. You can click here to learn more about Kaity’s Way.
