State Testing April 2nd & 3rd

  • Each year, the Arizona State Board of Education requires that high schools test all 9th and 11th grade students to assess their ongoing progress toward college and career readiness. This week on Tuesday, April 2nd and Wednesday, April 3rd, Centennial will administer the ACT Aspire test to all freshmen and the ACT and Arizona Science tests to all juniors. All 10th and 12th grade students will stay home on April 2nd and 3rd to complete lessons and activities using their school-issued laptops. These assessments require our school to implement special schedules, including virtual home learning for 10th and 12th grade students and unique early release times for 9th and 11th grade students:

Teachers will provide sophomores and seniors assignments to complete and submit online. Because our teachers will be proctoring tests for the other grade levels on campus, they cannot provide virtual instruction. However, our 10th and 12th grade students will demonstrate their attendance via their submission of the assignments teachers provide. Freshmen and Juniors will be excused from these activities since they will be testing on both days.

It is vital that your student has a working, school-issued laptop prior to April 2nd so that he/she can either participate in the state testing (9th and 11th grade) or work from home (10th and 12th grade).

These important tests help your student, your family, and our school to assess growth, highlight achievement, and identify areas for improvement. In fact, because of its relevance to college admissions and scholarship opportunities, the ACT may be the most important test our students take. Please review the special schedules and encourage your student to give their very best effort on April 2nd and 3rd!

Around Campus

  • COOP Egg Hunt

Ms. Jackson, Earth/Space Science teacher, reports that, "Every semester my students create a model of their own planet using paper mache. Instead of tossing them after their presentations, I used them as "Easter Eggs" for a campus wide COOP Easter Egg Hunt that I hope to make an annual event. The kids loved it! COOP will be once again reusing these paper mache "eggs" for decorations on their upcoming Candyland Prom! Love to reduce, reuse and recycle."
