Itadakimasu (an expression of gratitude before a meal)! Students in Ms. Cothren's Japanese I celebrated 2024 Ramey Day and learned about the history of ramen and its importance in Japanese culture, as well as the etiquette of using chopsticks to enjoy eating and slurping ramen! Gochisousamadeshita (It was a feast)! Students practiced their chopsticks skills by picking up gummy bears. They also counted to 100 and discussed colors in their new language.
Congratulations to Coach Tenbarge, Coach Bauer and our Boys and Girls Golfers for strong starts to the new season! Both Centennial teams started with wins, the boys taking two versus Sunrise Mountain and the Girls winning their first match versus Ironwood and Deer Valley. The teams also joined forces with their boosters to hold a fundraiser. The Coyotes carried bags, ran tournament games and checked players in.
New Clear Bag Policy for all PUSD Public Events
-
In alignment with many other peer school districts, Peoria Unified will implement a requirement that only clear bags may be used at all after-school sports and extracurricular events held at any Peoria Unified high school beginning in 2024-25 school year. Using clear bags enhances safety measures which is a shared responsibility for everyone who attends district’s events at our high schools. It will also streamline the entry process for guests attending these events.
Handbook Highlight: School Dress Code
-
Peoria schools are places of learning where students can express themselves while also promoting each school’s behavior expectations. We value students’ right to dress in a way that highlights their culture, religious diversity and individuality. Also, appropriate student dress contributes to a safe workplace and educational atmosphere and supports the success of the entire community. Clothing students might wear in social settings or outside of school may not be appropriate to wear to school. You can review this and other handbook policies by clicking here.
Please wear:
- Clothing that is not see-through.
- Clothing that covers your undergarments, chest and torso when standing or sitting.
- Shirts with a back and straps that fit closely under the arms.
- Clothing that is of adequate length to always cover the student’s bottom.
- Clothing with appropriate language, free from references to violent images, guns or weapons, tobacco/vaping, drugs, alcohol, sexual references, profanity, or language that demeans others.
- Appropriate footwear for a safe learning environment. When selecting footwear, students should be responsive to the specific safety needs of each school and/or classroom, as determined by the teachers and administration.
Headwear may be worn on campus but should be removed in the building or classroom if asked by a staff member. Students will not be asked to remove headwear that is worn for cultural and/or religious reasons.
If there is a concern regarding the student dress, a staff member will ask the student to go to the front office to address the issue. The student and front office staff member will discuss the concern, and if deemed necessary, the student will be provided appropriate clothing to change into or may wait in the office for appropriate clothing to be brought to them. Repeated or egregious dress code violations may result in disciplinary consequences. Requests for exceptions to the dress code should be brought to the school administration.
