October 14th - 19th, 2024
Last week, a Centennial-record 198 sophomore and junior Coyotes completed the PSAT on campus in the Small Gym! Thanks to Mr. Gibbs, Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Cope, Ms. Hodges and all the people who helped to organize and proctor the exam, which allows students to compete for more than $300 Million in scholarships and enter the National Merit Scholarship competition.
Eleven Coyotes Win National Recognition Awards
One of the PSAT's many scholarship opportunities is the National Recognition Program. On October 3rd, Centennial recognized eleven students who earned academic honors from the College Board because they scored among our state's top students on last year's PSAT! The National Recognition Program awards honors to high-performing students from underrepresented student groups. The five national programs include African American, First-Generation College, Hispanic, Indigenous, and Rural and Small Town recognitions. Many colleges intentionally recruit awardees, and school communities often celebrate students who receive these awards. Congratulations to the below students:
Congratulations to our Math Department Chair Mr. Gahan, who was named Staff Member of the Month last week for being the “glue that keeps his department together” and a constant proponent of positive Centennial culture. Of Michael, teachers said he “helps me turn my attitude around when I’m feeling negative or overwhelmed,” is “always testing new technology and classroom approaches,” and “expects the best from his students and the staff around him… Have you seen how many kids are in his room after school for tutoring?” Michael is an indispensable leader and model of professionalism who prioritizes students, achievement, and culture. He sponsors Centennial's Math Society, announces for PSBN, assists our district with textbook selection, and served for many years as its boys basketball coach. He also helps to lead Centennial's social committee. We are grateful for you, Mr. Gahan! Thanks to Keller Williams Realtor and Centennial parent Heather Phillips for providing Mr. Gahan with gifts and supporting Centennial's Staff Member of the Month recognition!

Congratulations to Mrs. Colletti and the cast and crew of A Midsummer Night's Dream for their three outstanding performances of Shakespeare's play last week! We are so proud of your growth, talent, and creativity and look forward to later performances this year, including SpongeBob SquarePants The Musical this coming spring!
Mrs. Saltzman's Professional Cooking Students practiced their chicken fabrication skills last week, using the carcass, legs, and wings to make chicken stock. From that they made Chicken and Dumplings and Deep Dish Chicken Pot Pies. They grilled the thighs and used them to practice plating techniques. Finally, they used the breasts to make a multi-tier protein entrée.
