Around Campus

  • Congratulations to Centennial’s October and November Rotary Students of the Month, seniors Gandi Sandoval and Siena “Max” Cates! Both were recognized among other PUSD peers last week during a breakfast ceremony at Ironwood High School. Gandi is an FBLA officer and three-time class president who is helping to guide seniors this year to complete their financial aid applications (FAFSA). He helped planned last year’s prom and Adopt a Family drive, serves as a mentor in his church youth group and plans to major in mathematics and attend law school to become a corporate lawyer. Mr. Berquam says Gandi is “just a great student and leader to his peers.” Max earned Centennial’s highest ACT score last year and sets the example of what it means to love to learn, studying three languages, including Russian, French and Japanese, plus passing a plethora of Advanced Placement exams. A member of Centennial’s Math Society, Max is still evaluating college options for next year, with a plan to major in genetics and minor in linguistics. Mr. Gahan praises Max for showing up every day to do the work and lead by example. Thanks to Peoria North Rotary Club for honoring Centennial’s students!

    Hozan State Jazz Choir

Last weekend, our very own sophomore Miriam Hozan performed in the Arizona All-State Jazz Choir Festival as first chair alto!  Miriam, congratulations on being accepted into this elite ensemble of just 20 singers from all over Arizona!  The students rehearsed three days and presented the final concert Saturday night at Horizon High School!  Miriam even earned a solo and represented Centennial very well!

Congratulations to Centennial Culinary Teacher Mrs. Ashley Kinnaman, named November Staff Member of the Month! In just her first year as a culinary teacher, Mrs. Kinnaman is having a big impact! She’s lead FCCLA students on a field trip to cater thousands of meals for hundreds of FBLA students, served as a vital band parent, providing food and other support for the Pride of the Pack, and shown up as a regular at many student athletic and performing arts events. She’s organized, committed, ambitious, and kind. Our students love her good spirit and dedication to their growth. Her husband Mr. Kinnaman has also lent a helping hand many times on campus and with Band. Congratulations and thank you Mrs. Kinnaman! Also, special thanks to former CeHS parent and Keller Williams Realtor Heather Phillips for providing gifts and encouragement to Centennial’s staff members of the month!
