Two Centennial Teachers Recognized as Pride of Peoria Winners

Congratulations to Mrs. Roxane Winston and Mrs. Katherin Hodges, recognized last week by district and site administration among the Top 1% of all PUSD employees. Over her 10+ years at Centennial, Mrs. Winston has taught English and CTE courses. Our Ed Professions and Professional Internship programs have flourished under her leadership. Mrs. Winston for many years sponsored clubs like Centennial’s National Honor Society. She has hosted student teachers, written district curriculum, designed and delivered professional development, and developed summer programming to support the 8th grade-to-high-school transition. Mrs. Winston has served as administrator for Centennial’s summer school program, and she is the Ed Professions lead. Mrs. Winston is a key contributor to Centennial’s culture and a dedicated, innovative and talented teacher and club sponsor. She builds welcoming, caring, and challenging learning environments in which all students feel known and valued. Vocational Rehabilitation and Transition Student to Work Specialist Katherin Hodges helps to qualify students for additional training, schooling, and supports after high school so that they can obtain and keep jobs, advance their skills, and flourish. There are so many students who’ve earned certifications, graduated college, lead companies, and turned weaknesses into strengths because Katherin Hodges believed in them and connected them with the supports they needed. Congratulations Mrs. Winston and Mrs. Hodges! You are the Pride of Peoria!

Coyotes in the News

Our Leaders of the Pack

  • Each quarter, Centennial honors eight students who our staff members feel exemplify our school's values of HONOR, INTEGRITY and EXCELLENCE. Congratulations to Centennial's 3rd Quarter Leaders of the Pack: Freshmen Titus Tuiteleleapaga and Ashlynn Pettit, Sophomores Peyton Pamula and Isaac Lewis, Juniors Jessica Ponce Zermeno and Lena Fontana, and Seniors John Sielewicki and Shane Harmon. These students were recognized alongside their families during a breakfast on campus last week because they honor others and our school, live with integrity, and pursue excellence.

Around Campus

  • Thanks to all the Centennial students and teachers who showcased their talents this past weekend at the annual Peoria Arts Festival! Choir, Drum Line, Drama, Ceramics, Art, and Photography students all participated throughout the day.

Japanese Club had a wonderful time at the 41st Annual Arizona Matsuri Festival at Indian Steele Park, Phoenix. We engaged in traditional and modern Japanese activities such as Taiko Drumming, Martial Arts, Obon Dancing, and other cultural activities. We also ate unique and delicious Japanese food such as takoyaki, soba noodles, ramen, and mochi. We can't wait to go again next year!

Coyotes Shut Out the Cobras: Congratulations to Coach Bennett and Centennial Flag Football for their season-opening 14-0 victory over Cactus! The girls return to action Wednesday with a 5pm home game vs. Horizon.

We are excited to share that Centennial had two winners at the inaugural Peoria Unified Honors Art Show! Isabella Pierson won the Best in Show award and Jessica Cruces Marquez won 3rd place for 3-Dimensional work! Congratulations to both students and to their Ceramics Teacher, Mrs. Jones!
