November 29th - December 4th

I hope you enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday! At Centennial, we have such much to be thankful for. Our students have many diverse opportunities to learn, grow, and achieve at high levels. If you enjoyed one of our dance concerts before break, you certainly saw growth and achievement in action. Our staff is spirited, caring, and committed to best practices. Last week, they dressed up in a secret spirit week to entertain students and have some fun. This week, they'll be visiting classrooms to observe each other and collect evidence of effective teaching. Our families are supportive and engaged. If you attended a FAFSA workshop or a parent information night, a band competition, or a volleyball or football game this semester, it's clear that Coyote parents understand their role in encouraging student success. Thanks for the many roles you've played this semester. Just 14 days remain, and if you're like me, it's hard to believe that December is here! I want to share a few important reminders:

Wednesday, December 1st is a Full Instructional Day
This week, there is no early release. Students will attend all day on Wednesday, from 7:20am-2:20pm.

Thursday, December 9th ID Check: Don't Get Marked Tardy
ID's are an important component of our campus' safety plan. Beginning January 4th, all students will be expected to wear their ID's on campus throughout the instructional day. Last week, Centennial held its first ID check. Despite prior notice of the ID check, 136 students visited the Bookstore to obtain a new copy of their ID and therefore arrived late to second period. These students were allowed to return to class without any consequence. However, on Thursday, December 9th, we will hold a second ID check. Students who do not have an ID will be marked tardy and required to obtain a replacement ID in the Bookstore. Students can obtain a replacement in the Bookstore before school, during lunch, or after school, so there should be no reason for them to arrive to class without an ID. Please encourage your Coyote to wear his/her ID every day. ID's keep all of us safer. 

Final Exams Wednesday and Thursday December 15th-16th (10:20am Release)
Remember that our semester ends with two days of final exams and 10:20am releases. Please click here for the December 15th and 16th bell schedules.

Plenty of first-semester time remains for our students to improve a grade, participate in a new activity, or make meaningul connections and memories. Congratulations to senior Chloe Lyons, named Centennial's November Student of the Month. Chloe was honored by the Peoria Rotary Club last week for her character, leadership, and service. This past summer, Chloe traveled to Africa with Rotary International to deliver donated mobility devices. Chloe is President of Centennial's Interact Club, which is the high-school level Rotary organization. She also participates in National Honor Society and competes on the Coyote Swim Team. Next year, Chloe plans to attend Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. On the left, Chloe is pictured with Centennial science teacher Mrs. Petersen, who introduced Chloe to the Rotarians during a ceremony in which Centennial, Peoria, and Ironwood high schools each presented their students of the month.
