Congratulations Andrew Taylor, Centennial's Next Varsity Football Coach

  • Last week, we shared with our staff the exciting news that Mr. Andrew Taylor will serve as Centennial’s next varsity head football coach. Thanks to the parents, students, teachers, coaches, and staff who served on our selection committee, and thanks to Coach Taylor for accepting this opportunity to lead us forward!

Mr. Taylor graduated from Centennial in 1995 and competed at Glendale Community College and the University of Tulsa, returning to CeHS in 2000 with a History degree and a desire to teach and coach alongside his father. Since 2001, he has served as Centennial’s defensive coordinator, helping the Coyotes win their first state championship in 2006 and seven more since, including the 2024 6A Title. He will continue to teach a variety of social studies and physical education courses, as he has over the last 25 years.

Coach Taylor loves Centennial High School and the game of football. He understands how athletics help young men and women become accountable, disciplined, collaborative, and resilient. We believe he will lead a championship program that instills honor, integrity and excellence in its players, helping them build bridges to successful lives after high school.

Just last weekend, Mr. Taylor traveled out of state to receive the Broyles Award as Arizona’s top assistant coach, an honor that recognizes his knowledge, expertise, and results. We are proud that moving forward, he will serve as head coach of the Centennial Football Team. Congratulations Coach Taylor!

Around Campus

  • French students learned about the holiday "La Chandeleur" and the French tradition of flipping crêpes. The crêpes resemble the sun, which shines longer and brighter this time of year. The challenge is to hold a coin in one hand and flip the crêpe with the other hand without dropping it. If you succeed, it is said you will have good luck and prosperity throughout the year. Our students were very successful! World Language classes are about culture as well as communication!

During Culture Club's meeting, members played some awesome cultural games, learned about our Chinese zodiacs and some students even brought in cultural dishes. It was a very successful Lunar New Year celebration for the general members of the culture club.  Everyone had a fun time!

Saturday Feb. 8th Girls Wrestling had their sectionals and 4 girls qualified for state this year! They each had to place in the top four of their weight classes. Centennial placed 4th out of 20 teams.
Huge accomplishment for the whole team!

Japanese Theater is a colorful and dramatic art form that combines dance, music, and acting. Some of the most well-known types of Japanese theater include Kabuki, Noh, Takarazuka, Kyogen, and Bunraku. Japanese II class researched the history of Japanese Theater then created masks, posters, and performed scenes from famous plays.

Saturday Feb. 15th we had 8 boys qualify for state and take 6th as a team at sectionals!  They each had to place in the top four of their weight classes.  Congratulations!
