International Baccalaureate Programme At Ironwood
-
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a rigorous, integrated program of scholastic and life learning that is designed to help students become well-rounded, socially responsible individuals who are able to manage their time and to make virtuous life choices. Ironwood High School was granted authorization from the International Baccalaureate Programme to become an IB Programme school on April 8th, 2005. The IB Programme at Ironwood invites prospective students to research the program to see if it fits their academic goals. During a student's freshman and sophomore years, the program begins with Pre-IB classes that prepare students to enter the actual IB Programme, which begins at the onset of the eleventh grade.
Students who succeed in the IB Programme are, above all else, excellent students. If you enjoy reading and writing and being challenged scholastically, this is a good fit for you. Earning an IB diploma is not easy, but for those who thirst for authentic scholarship and do not shirk in the face of adversity, this is exactly the program for you.
Eighth grade students applying to be pre-IB students must be able to:
- Excel in an atmosphere of challenging, rigorous coursework
- Have excellent attendance
- Maintain at least a B average
- Turn in all assignments on time
- Score well above average in ALL areas on a standardized achievement test
- Obtain recommendations from two current or former teachers
- Write an application essay.
We encourage students from outside the Ironwood High School attendance zone to apply for open enrollment to gain admission into our academic institution. All are welcome!
