September 11 Education Day | Sept. 9
On May 20, 2022, Gov. Ducey signed HB 2325 which requires that each year on September 11, every public school in Arizona will dedicate a portion of the school day to observe 9/11 Education Day. Since 9/11 falls on a Sunday, schools can choose to commemorate this day on Sept. 9.
Constitution Day | Sept. 16
Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year is required to hold an educational program about the U.S. Constitution for its students. Constitution Day allows all students to learn more about the significance of this document to United States History. Constitution Day is normally recognized on Sept. 17, but as that is a Saturday this year, we will celebrate on Sept. 16.
Sandra Day O’Connor Civics Celebration Day
In March 2019, the Governor signed HB 2625 into law stating that the Sandra Day O’Connor Civics Celebration Day is to occur in all K-12 classrooms on Sept. 25. This year we will celebrate on Sept. 23. After her retirement as a Supreme Court Justice, O'Conner devoted her time to advocate for civics education in a K-12 setting and founded the Civics organization dedicated to providing effective and creative tools for teachers to teach civics.
