LIBRARY COLLECTIONS

As per Peoria Unifed Governing Board Policy IJL-R, the following standards are used in the selection of library books, materials, and electronic media:

A.  Materials and media that widen the boundaries of the students' thinking, that enrich their lives and help them fulfill their recreational and emotional needs.
B.  Materials and media that have imaginative appeal and a style that is interesting and free from monotony.
C.  Materials and media that stimulate the imagination, provide for mental growth, develop a taste for good writing, and draw attention to the beautiful and artistic.
D.  Books and media that provide pleasurable reading for the reader's sake.
E.  Books and media that are illustrated in a manner that complements the text, have quality art, and are suitable for the intended readers.
F.  Materials and media that adequately cover a wide range of reading ability.

LIBRARY COLLECTION REVIEW AND CHECK OUT HISTORY

Effective January 1, 2023, as per statute (A.R.S. 15-721/A.R.S. 15-722), a list of all books available in our school libraries will be available for parent review.  Any new books purchased for our school libraries will undergo a 60 day public review period, as per statute.  Please note, parents and families will be notified of the opening and closing dates of public review periods for new library books seven days before the opening date.

Parents may also access a list of all books and materials their children have borrowed from the school library, consistent with state law. 

To access a school's library collection or a list of materials borrowed by your children, please fill out a Library Parental Request form and turn it in at the front office of your child's school. 

NEW BOOK REVIEW PROCESS

Any new books purchased for our school libraries after January 1, 2023 will undergo a 60-day public review period, as per statute.   Please note parents and families will be notified of the opening and closing dates of public review periods for new library books.

Feedback will be accepted during the review period.
