Welcome Our New Superintendent

  • On November 29, the Peoria Unified Governing Board voted unanimously to enter into contract negotiations with Dr. Kenneth Christopher (KC) Somers to serve as the district’s next superintendent, pending the result of successful contract negotiations and background check. The Board is expected to officially approve him as superintendent at a future meeting.  Appointing a superintendent is one of the primary jobs of the Governing Board. The Peoria Unified Board considered feedback from all stakeholders and followed a prescribed process outlined by McPherson & Jacobson, LLC.

Dr. Somers shared, “I am prepared and eager to not only lead this school system, but also live in a community where I can build relationships and partner with families to ensure that all students receive the quality, personalized education they deserve.”

Dr. Somers will join Peoria Unified from the Lewis-Palmer School District in Monument, Colo. where he has been serving as their superintendent for the past five years. During his tenure, Dr. Somers worked to transform the Lewis-Palmer School District with an academic-first approach which has led the district to perform in the top five percent of all Colorado schools. Prior to this appointment, he served in a variety of roles in school districts across Colorado including as the Area Superintendent of Aurora Public Schools. Dr. Somers earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Phoenix in 2013.
