PEORIA UNIFIED SEEKS FEEDBACK ON CURRICULUM MATERIALS

  • GLENDALE, Ariz. – Peoria Unified is seeking feedback regarding which materials will be used to guide learning in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, dual enrollment programs and International Baccalaureate (IB) classrooms.

Community members have the opportunity to review each of the proposed resources and provide feedback at the District Administration Center (DAC), 6330 W. Thunderbird Rd., Glendale, 85306. In alignment with Arizona Statute 15-722 and Peoria Unified Governing Board Policy IJJ, the materials are currently on display and will be on display for 60 days, concluding on June 28.

Community members can find a full list of the textbooks that are being considered at www.peoriunified.org/curriculum.

Each of these options equips students with essential skills, enhances college readiness, and opens doors to prestigious universities and lucrative career paths. To ensure Peoria Unified high school students are supported in their coursework, the district is seeking feedback regarding which materials will be used in these classes. The textbook adoption will address the following courses:

    • AP Chemistry
    • AP Biology
    • DE Human Physiology
    • IB Biology
    • DE American Sign Language
    • DE Japanese
    • IB Visual
    • IB Theater
    • AP 2-D Design
    • AP 3-D Design
    • IB Analysis and Approaches
    • IB Application and Interpretation

Because the coursework aligned with these courses is more closely aligned to what college students are expected to learn, the proposed textbooks mirror this expectation.

These rigorous courses prepare Peoria Unified students for college in the following ways:

    • Through the 32 AP courses offered in Peoria Unified, students can take a deep dive into subjects they're passionate about, earning college credit and potentially saving both time and money in higher education.
    • Dual Enrollment courses in Peoria Unified provide a bridge between high school and college, offering students a taste of university-level coursework while still in a supportive high school environment. In 2024, 1,705 students participated in Dual Enrollment courses across 159 classes in partnership with Maricopa County Community Colleges.
    • Each year, Ironwood High School students have the opportunity to be a part of the International Baccalaureate program which offers a globally recognized curriculum that fosters critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and a well-rounded education. Research from the International Baccalaureate indicates that students in IB complete college at a faster rate and feel more prepared for the university setting.
