Peoria Unified takes part in the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Summer Food Service Program for Children and Commodity Food Program. We offer a variety of nutritious food choices including a fruit and vegetable bar where student can choose from a minimum of 5 different healthy options. We also offer at least 1 vegetarian option each day. Menus are analyzed to ensure nutritional content is consistent with the regulations set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture.
All schools utilize the offer vs. serve meal service. This means that all students are offered five different food groups, but are allowed to decline groups.Government and State regulations require students to take ½ cup of fruits and/or vegetable as part of their meal; however, they are no longer required to take milk. Milk may be purchased from the lunch line even if the student is not getting lunch from the cafeteria. Students can purchase milk using their account or cash. A carton of milk is 35-cents.
Additional a la carte items may be offered during the lunch period to 6th graders through 12th graders. If you do not wish for your student to purchase these additional items with their accounts, you can set restrictions through MySchoolBucks.com.
