County Level School Benchmarks

  • The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) recommends that Maricopa County public health benchmarks fall within the moderate or minimal spread category in all three benchmarks for two weeks in order to re-open schools for in-person instruction. ADHS specifically recommends that the following benchmarks be met prior to offering any in-person learning:

     

      • Cases: a two week decline in the number of cases or two weeks with new case rates below 100 per 100,000

     

      • Percent Positivity: two weeks with less than 7% positivity

     

      • COVID-like Illness Syndromic Surveillance: two weeks with hospital visits due to COVID-like illness below 10%

     

      • The county health department may modify a specific benchmark

By clicking on your selected area on the map, a pop-up report will generate a value for that area's overall COVID-19 community transmission risk level and the recommended learning scenario.

     

    To see data for Peoria Unified, pull down on "View report by" to Unified School District. Then type "Peoria Unified" in the search field and click on the district name. You will then see several school districts highlighted on the map. Click on the portion of the map labelled "Peoria Unified" to see benchmark results based on data from within district boundaries. 

     

    This dashboard is housed on the Maricopa County Public Health website and is updated weekly on Thursdays by 4 p.m.

  • The Arizona Department of Health Services defines community spread levels with the thresholds outlined below. 

     

     

    Benchmarks Minimal Moderate Substantial
    Cases (or a two-week decline in cases) <10 cases/100,000 10-100 cases/100,000 >100 cases/100,000
    Percent Positive <5% 5-10% >10%
    ER Visits for COVID-like Illness <5% 5-10% >10%
